2 Month Check-up: What a Big Boy!

Today was Kaelan's 2 month check up... ie: Vaccine Day!  He took it as well as can be expected and didn't turn quite as red as he did at his newborn screening.  But as the cries and tears came out, I found myself tearing up!  He seems to be in good health though, the doctor agrees he is getting to be a healthy big boy.  He now weighs 13lbs 11oz (a gain of 6lbs since birth) which puts him in the 92nd percentile for weight and he measured at 25inches (a gain of 4.5in.) which puts him in the 98th percentile for height.  No wonder my back and arms hurt!!

We took quite a few photos last week and over the weekend.  Being Kaelan's mom, I think they're all fantastic so it's hard for me to choose which ones to post... so here are a ton! :)

Proud Momma

My precious baby, gosh I love him so much!

Can't get over his face here... he truly is Mommy's Little Monster!

Hangin' out Saturday, TRYING to get some smiles on camera.  Every time we tried to take a picture, the smile disappeared.  Hopefully one day we'll get a good (non-blurry) one!

Yep, we obviously miss-treat him! ;)

Lily is finally getting on board with this whole baby thing...

Who needs Brad Womack as The Bachelor when you have Kaelan?!  Here he is, blowing bubbles for the ladies :)

Fussy baby finally fell asleep

Baby still fusses?  Try a different couch! :)

7 Weeks Old Today!

Kaelan turned 7 weeks old today so of course we had the obligatory photo session.  I could be going a little nuts with this, but oh well. :)  Today was also my first "real" day back at work.  Friday was pretty easy knowing Kaelan was home with Nick, I could leave about 30 minutes early, and I had the entire weekend to spend with him.  Today was a little tougher knowing I had to make it through the entire week.  I rushed home, through the door with arms full of groceries, and ran to the couch to see my precious baby boy.  He is such a joy to come home to - yes, even when he is screaming.  It's pretty great to come home to Nick too. ;)  Grandma Lana was kind enough to send me an email and photo update of their day together and even vacuumed our floors in a bid to keep the kid awake!  Here are some photos we took tonight, including one of a great big smile... too bad it's blurry!

Back to Work... :(

All good things must come to an end...

Tomorrow is my last day home with Kaelan... my emotions are out of control.  Last week was spent mostly in tears over it... Will someone else take as good of care of him as I do?  Will he lay in a crib at daycare crying while other babies are taken care of?  Will he forget who I am now that I'm not the primary caregiver?  Am I a bad mom?  These are all questions that have been racing through my mind as I stare at my baby sleeping in my arms.

Nick suggested finding someone who watches kids from home instead of taking him to the daycare we initially picked.  I must admit, this made me feel better.  I'd much rather my 7 week old in a home atmosphere with less chaos surrounding him.  Only problem?  Where to find someone on such late notice.  Aunt Kristin and her mom Terry to the rescue!  Kristin's mom's neighbor, Paula, just so happens to watch children from her home and has done so for 20+ years.  Hurray!  Nick and I met with her on Monday and we are very excited to be taking Kaelan to her home.  Only one more problem... no openings until February 21st.  Grandma Lana to the rescue this time!  She has graciously offered to come out of retirement for 4-5 weeks to watch him for us.

While I'm still devastated and emotional about leaving Kaelan on Friday morning, it is comforting to know that he'll be in excellent hands with grandma for the next month and in capable (I'll hold off on "excellent" for now... :) ) hands afterwards with Paula.  Friday will truly be one of the hardest days of my life.

To end this post on a positive note... here are some photos of my sweet baby boy :)

While I have Time...

Well, I figure I should post as much as possible while I'm off work...

Kaelan has started cooing - I LOVE it!!  Every time he does it, I do it right back to him.  He has also started trying to scoot across the floor (or couch) during tummy time.  When I support the soles of his feet, he'll push against my hand and move around the floor.  Surely he'll be sitting up and crawling in no time!  :)  I can't wait for his personality to develop and to start seeing intentional smiles and hear his laugh.  For now I'll enjoy his sweetness while he sleeps and his developing alertness and awareness of his surroundings while he is awake.

5 Weeks Old!

Kaelan is exactly 5 weeks old today and I thought I might commemorate the occasion with a little photo shoot... at exactly 1:31PM.  Yes, I'm a nerd.  And baby crazy.  :)

November 29th

January 3rd...

I can't believe how big he is getting already... Friday he weighed in at 9lbs 11oz.  His newborn pants are getting a little snug around the waist and his footie pajamas are almost too short for him now when he stretches out.  Oh how I'll miss many of his outfits!

One of his favorite things to do - stare at himself in the mirror

Happy New Year!!

Funny how times change... usually our New Years plans are arranged around the best house party to find or the best bar to go to.  Many drinks are consumed and a great time is had by all.  The night is capped off with a fantastic New Years kiss from my husband.

This year we had an amazing little third wheel.  A fun house party was found (at my mom's house) and the little man got to meet some of his Louisiana relatives (shame on me for not snapping any photos with Great Aunt Dean and Aunt Sherrie!).  We didn't even make it to midnight, leaving the party around 11:30.  As we drove home on I-45 we were surrounded by amazing fireworks displays and as we pulled into the Wal-Mart parking lot to buy last minute formula and diapers I had TWO Midnight kisses.  Best New Years yet!

New Years Eve Morning:

At my parent's house... Nick wore this shirt for my bridal shower.  Along with my dad and my uncle, they drove guests in golf carts from the parking area to the home where the shower was being hosted.  Glad we held on to the shirt! :)

New Years Day, Baby's First New Year! Happy 2011!
